Sustainable, Responsible Use by all of Moreton Bay

The Moreton Bay rezoning issue is heating up with Green groups claiming that up to half the bay should be included in no-take zones. Whilst claiming that science should back any proposed closures, the radical green groups are as yet unable to produce any irrefutable scientific evidence to suggest that no-take zones will improve biodiversity and boost fish stocks. Further more, no-take zones only protect biodiversity from one element; fishing, whilst other more important elements such as water degradation, siltation, urban runoff, pollution are ignored completely.

Further more, no-take zones specifically target boat fishing whilst other boating activities such as diving, pleasure cruising, skiing and jet skiing are allowed. This has lead some observers to comment that under the proposed restrictions, a bay user could in fact drag an anchor all over the zone, destroying fish and aquatic habitat and as long as they didn't actually drop a line in the water or remove any living thing, it would be totally legal.

With a Federal election looming, it is time to send the State Labor Government, their EPA bureaucrats and politicians of all persuasions, that we will unite against unfair and unscientific closures which affect our lifestyle.
